The 2015 CrossFit Games Open Has Begun!

I am sure some of you feel nervous… embrace it, it’s part of the open and what makes it one of the most exciting times of the year. Many of you who have never competed in the open and may be wondering what the fuss is about. You will just have to wait and see!
I would love to see everyone competing in this year’s open, I know some of you can’t or shouldn’t for various reasons. I just hope that reason isn’t because someone feels that that they don’t have the necessary skills, or lack the ability to do the open, it really is for everyone. No Regrets!
Saturday when most of us meet at the gym, the air will be electric before the first heat even begins and it is easy to forget your game plan before you ever grab a barbell or wallball. These are few things that may will help.
1.) If you can’t do a workout on Saturday let John, Von, Dustin or I know so we can make arrangements. Your participation in the open is important to us and while we can’t recreate the atmosphere that is there on Saturday, whomever is at the box will gladly do their best to try!
2.) Eat before you come and bring some food and drink. For me eating and timing are critical but my ability to control timing are limited. Bring food/energy, water and above all a positive mental attitude.
3.) No-Reps, they are a part of the open and they are going to happen! Integrity matters, not just for us as individual CrossFitters, but for the box. There have been several affiliates that have lost their right to host open events because of “bro-reps”.
No-Reps are not directed at you as a person, and I guarantee the judge who is giving you a No-Rep feels shitty about it. Personally just the thought of no-repping someone makes my stomach hurt… yes, even Wilson. So, keep my stomach healthy and do the movements correctly!
4.) No helping someone doing the workout in anyway except cheering them on. Observers and judges are not allowed to touch any equipment being used. The judge can only if there is a safety issue.
5.) Watch the videos showing the movement standards. It will explain anything and everything.
6.) HAVE FUN! This is the most important part of the open! It doesn’t matter if you come in first or last the main objective is to have a blast! Embrace and push each other, pick each other up when we fall and give each other hugs at the end of the workout.
7.) HAVE FUN! No this isn’t a mistake, having fun matters and is worth saying twice! Bring friends, family or your neighbors. Everyone is welcome and you are all incredibly awesome!
