The 2016 Open

By: 0

The 2016 CrossFit Games Open is now upon us.  Tomorrow night they will announce the workout, and I can’t wait! (**Announcement Watch Party at the Gym at 6:30/7-ish) I was just sitting and thinking about what all of the .1’s have been, and wondering if I could figure out what we might see for 16.1.  Here are the past first week workouts:

11.1

Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 10 minutes of:
• 30 Double-unders
• 15 Power snatches (M: 75lbs / 35kg, W:55lbs / 25kg)

This was my very first Open workout!  I remember being really good at the Double Unders, but terrible at the snatches.

12.1

Complete as many reps as possible in 7 minutes of:
• Burpees

Holy crap this was terrible.  I remember wanting to make 100 reps SO bad, but couldn’t quite get there.  I even tried it twice.  Halfway through the second attempt I just quit.  This combined with some other training just killed my shoulders.

13.1

MEN – includes Masters Men up to 54 years old
Proceed through the sequence below completing as many reps as possible in 17 minutes of:
40 Burpees
75 pound Snatch, 30 reps
30 Burpees
135 pound Snatch, 30 reps
20 Burpees
165 pound Snatch, 30 reps
10 burpees
210 pound Snatch, as many reps as possible

14.1

Complete as many reps as possible in 10 minutes of:
• 30 double-unders
• 75/55# power snatches, 15 reps

This was the first Open at Olive Branch CrossFit.  I had the bestest judge…

15.1

AMRAP 9 minutes:
• 15 Toes-to-Bar
• 10 Deadlifts (115/75)
• 5 Snatches (115/75)

15.1a

In 6 minutes, establish a 1 RM Clean & Jerk.

I remember loving this workout, but the 1RM C&J was something that would put me way behind some of you stronger peeps.  Still fun times as always though.

So, what can we take away from this?  Can someone say snatch? The only year that didn’t have snatches in it was 12.1 with the burpees.  Burpees, Snatches and Double Unders look to be frequent “.1” movements.  We all know that we can’t predict what the workout will be, but I’m guessing you’ll see at least one of those movements.  I also predict that you’ll have a hell of a time if you come join us at Olive Branch CrossFit on Saturdays at 10am for the workouts.  We’ll be having a watch party tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7PM.  Come hang out with the most awesome CF community in the world and have some fun exercising for time.  Against your friends. It’s gonna be TONS of fun!!!  Just remember, for most of us, it’s not about going to regionals or winning anything.  It’s about doing better than we did the year before…oh, and beating as many of our friends as possible!  Have fun, and I’ll see you at the Open.
