Why You Should Compete!
I always make sure that I am training for something. Most of the time that means I have a handful of races that I’m registered for and am keeping in the back of my mind. This has always helped to keep me focused. If I know that there is a 50 mile race coming up in the future then it makes it more difficult for me to slack off and not train. Let’s be honest, all of us have those times where we just get into a funk and don’t feel like training. During these times, it really helps to have something to help you keep your focus. Training for an event can do just that.
It doesn’t have to be a 50 mile race though. It doesn’t even have to be running. There are so many things to train for now that your options are plenty. You could do an adventure race. There are all kinds of these around from the Warrior Dash to the Spartan and Death Races. CrossFit style competitions are also popping up all over the place now days. There’s a team competition at Desoto CrossFit in July, and we’re hosting the Garage Games World Wide WoD event in our gym in August. These are really good opportunities to get your feet wet in the fitness competition world.

I love testing my training. I love working really hard in the gym and then getting out there to see all the hard work pay off. For me, that means running a long way in the woods. For you it could be something totally different. I encourage everyone to get out there and find something that appeals to them, sign up for and event, and train hard for it.
See you in the gym!
